If you’ve spent some time in the Garden Route over the past year the chances are you would have seen Ian Kitching fishing the lagoons on his awesome stand up fishers -props- http://www.supfisher.co.za/.  Hes also caught some giant Grunter on surface flies.  I would be jealous if i wasn’t so damn impressed.  Quite possibly the biggest grunts I’ve seen taken on the fly.  Well done Ian.  You might recognise that cap- Flydotfish ( www.flydotfish.com ) is Henkie Altenas guiding outfit.  He was a trailblazer in these parts and introduced me to the fly I fish the most.

Fantastic fish! Please let us know what patterns are used on the surface to catch the spotted grunter?
